The purpose of the new plan was to deal with litter by forcing homeowners who don’t have trash pick up service to have a trash hauler so they have no incentive to litter thus saving the taxpayers thousands of dollars in costs to pick up trash dumoed on the side fo the road. The one hauler per district plan also saves taxpayers money in wear and tear on the streets from less heavy trucks breaking down the road lessenign maintenance costs for patching and repaving. We would also have less pollution generated by having less large trucks on the roads. And last but not least costs would be cheaper to the homeowners due to the haulers opperating more efficiently and passign savings on to us.
There must be performance requirements to meet and the contract which will be reviewed annually could not be renewed for failure to meet performance thus concerns about being stuck with a poorly performing hauler becomes moot. This is no different than how the county deals with other private concerns providing services such as the bus system. The only reason the final numbers for the proposed service were higher for some homeowners is that GC&B had excessive administartvie costs built in that would not exist for a new proposal operated directly by the county.
There are too many plusses for a plan to not be consiudered and eventually implemented. The GC&B plan need some tweeks as does the government ordinance which needs some rewordign as it seems to mandate recycling for which enforcement would be a nightmre although in theory it is the right thing to do. You can not make a decison unless you allow youirselves to become fully informed. I for one want the service provided as cheaply and efficiently as possible and that is not possible under the existing process.
